New Gaming Licensing

Steps to be ready on time

From 1 July 2023 current licensed premises gaming (LPG) licences will no longer exist.

The LPG licence category will be replaced by a new venue licence category.

As an LPG operator you must apply and be assessed to hold a new venue licence.

You should start preparing now, so that you submit a compliant application on time.

Step 1 - Check when your LPG licence expires and take action

The expiry date is on your licence and when it expires affects what you must do.

Expires between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023

  • Apply for a venue licence before your LPG licence expires or ideally before January 2023, whichever occurs first
  • Pay the venue licence application fee

Expires on or after 1 July 2023

  • Apply for a venue licence from 1 July 2022 and ideally before January 2023
  • Pay the venue licence application fee

Venue licences effective from 1 July 2023 will be issued to suitable applicants when they become available. You will be advised about the outcome of your application before then.

Step 2 - Start to prepare your application

Preparing a full and complete application will take time. Start now so that your application is assessed without delays. Incomplete applications cannot be assessed.

  • Contact your associates. Existing and new associates must submit a separate application form as they must be assessed as well. Associates for more than one venue in a common ownership group will only require one application. For a definition of associates, see the Supporting Information page.
  • Get your business documents together.  You will need to provide documents including:
    • evidence of the legal entity applying
    • property information including title/lease, property and floor plans
    • proof of identity for all associates
    • financial statements for the most recent three years

For the Associate form, Application for venue licence form and supporting information, see the Application for Venue Licence page.
