Further details about gaming licensing

Existing LPG operators

When can I start my application?

We recomend that you start your application now by collecting, scanning and saving all the required business information. Further information about the online application process will be provided shortly.

Do I need to resubmit my property plan, floor plan and corporate entity details etc, if I have previously held a Licensed Premises Gaming Licence?

Yes.  This is a new licensing regime and it is important to confirm that the information in your application is current.

When can I start buying or leasing gaming equipment?

After your application for a venue licence has been assessed, you will receive written advice to confirm when you can enter into arrangements to lease or buy equipment.

What if I've already applied for a LPGL renewal?

You will still need to submit a venue licence application from 1 July 2022. The application processes are separate.

I'm not planning to move to the new system, what should I do?

Surrender your LPG licence before 1 July 2023. You must give notice in writing to the Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission.

A new operator is taking over my gaming venue and will move to the new system, what should I do?

You don't need to take any action.  The new operator will need to submit a venue licence application.  Upon being granted a provisional licence, the Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission will cancel your existing licence. Should you surrender your licence prior to a new licence being granted, the venue will be unable to operate gaming until a full licence is granted.

Am I eligible for a fee refund?

You may be eligible for a fee refund, if you intend on surrendering your licence prior to your licence expiry.  Contact the Liquor and Gaming Branch to discuss your eligibility for a fee refund.

What happens if I don't do anything about moving to the new system?

From 1 July 2023, your LPG licence will no longer exist and you will have no authority to operate gaming.

If this is the case, please let us know as early as possible and make arrangements with Network Gaming for the gaming equipment to be removed.

What if my application is submitted before January 2023, but it is not determined by 1 July 2023?

Provided that you have submitted a venue licence application, you will be granted a provisional venue licence until your application is determined.

You will continue operating after the changeover day under the authority of the provisional venue licence.

I operate keno only.  What do I need to do?

See the Steps to be ready page.  Keno operators will need to submit the most recent three years of financial statements as part of their application.
